TRUMP BITES PILLOW WHILE IRANIANS BLAST U.S. BASES WITH MISSILES -- NO RESPONSE
Pillow biter Trump |
It's clear who's winning here. Last night, in retaliation for a criminal act of state terrorism by the United States, the Iranian military launched a couple of dozen missiles into U.S. bases in Iraq.
Two Iraqi bases housing US and coalition troops were targeted, one at Al Asad and one in Irbil, at about 02:00 local time on Wednesday (22.30 GMT on Tuesday). It came just hours after the burial of Soleimani, who controlled Iran's proxy forces across the Middle East.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei said the attack was "a slap in the face" for the US and called for an end to the US presence in the region...
Iraq's Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said Iran warned him just after midnight local time that an attack was imminent and only areas with US troops would be targeted. There were no reports of Iraqi casualties, he said.
These were the same bases used in staging the terrorist drone attack on top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani last Friday (3rd January).
The Iranian foreign minister, Javid Zarif, put it nicely:
Yes, every country has a right to defend itself and the Iranian response was calculated to send a strong message -- "you hit us we will hit you." The attack also seems to have been carefully calibrated to prevent a further U.S. response. Latest reports suggest that the missiles targeted areas in the base where equipment was stored rather than residential facilities -- so far no US casualties have been announced.
But even if there were some U.S. casualties, it would be difficult for Trump to retaliate for the retaliation, as the Iranians have morality and international law on their side here, while they have also let the U.S. know they are not going to back down. Trump seems to be going along with this, as we see in his latest cucked tweet:
Yes, all is going well -- he's just taking a few missiles up the arse.
Right now Trump's speech writers are working overtime to find a form of words that makes "Sorry Iran, please don't hurt us" sound 10% like John Wayne.

As for the Iranians, they know that the U.S. is essentially a geopolitical coward and that Trump, despite his bluster, doesn't want a real war.
This means that they have become the first nation in history to take pot shots at the American "Superpower" with relative impunity. Trump, if he knows what's good for him, will suck this up and continue biting the pillow.
In fact, his stupid action leaves him little choice, as it has alienated America's allies, divided his base, and united his foreign and domestic enemies against him.
It has also pissed away any U.S. legitimacy and soft power in Iraq, which means that Iran's covert campaign to push the U.S. out of the country will be all the stronger. Already the Iraqi parliament has voted for U.S. forces to leave. If they don't, the Iraqi Shia militias and Iranian proxies in the country will make it extremely uncomfortable for them to stay.
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has already spelled this out during a cabinet session on Wednesday (8th):
“They cut off our dear Soleimani‘s hand, and you saw his dear hand beside his body in the videos and photos. To avenge the move, we should cut the US’ feet and kick it out of the region.”
Really, we shouldn't even be reporting on this crap, as one of the main points of voting for Trump in 2016 was to dial back pointless overseas involvements like this that serve no American interest. In 2020 there has to be a right-wing alternative to Donald Trump. Maybe Tucker should run.
