TRUMP'S CRAPPY BORDER FENCE BLOWS OVER IN LIGHT BREEZE

There has been a lot of criticism of Trump's new so-called "border wall," with many Trump detractors calling it "just a fence." Trump supporters, meanwhile, have bravely defended the metal slat design, saying that it allows border guards to see what is happening on the other side of the border (as if drones would do it better). 

But doubts about the effectiveness of the "Wall" have now soared after a section of it apparently fell over in a light breeze.

As reported by CNN:

Newly installed panels from the US border wall fell over in high winds Wednesday, landing on trees on the Mexican side of the border.

The area is part of an ongoing construction project to improve existing sections of the wall.

Agent Carlos Pitones of the Customs and Border Protection sector in El Centro, California, told CNN that the sections that gave way had recently been set in a new concrete foundation in Calexico, California. The concrete had not yet cured, according to Pitones, and the wall panels were unable to withstand the windy conditions.

The National Weather Service reports that winds in the area gusted as high as 37 mph Wednesday. Video from CNN affiliate KYMA shows the metal panels leaning against trees adjacent to a Mexicali, Mexico, street as the wind whips up dirt from the construction site on the other side of the border.

"We are grateful there was no property damage or injuries," said Pitones.

Customs and Border Protection says local Mexicali officials diverted traffic from the area of the accident, and the agency is working with the Mexican government on the next steps to right the wall. Pitones said it is not currently known how long the construction work in the area will need to be suspended in order to allow for cleanup.

So the story is "high winds" and "wet concrete." LOL, even that sounds bad. 

But, since this was CNN, we thought it advisable to do a basic fact check, so we looked at the weather conditions for that time and area. Here is the data for Calexico on Wednesday (29th Jan):

And here is the data for Mexicali on the same date:

Notice the top wind speed mentioned -- 7 mph. 

OK, just possibly it may have gusted to a higher speed for a few, brief seconds, but 37 mph seems a stretch. It is clear there was nothing more sustained than a light breeze the whole day, yet the wall fell over until it was literally held up by some small trees. 

I guess that settles the great debate on whether it is a wall or a fence.

Either this is a shoddy design with shit foundations that a cat could dig under or it is being built by a gang of idiots. Probably both. 

Whatever the case, this so-called "wall," which will only cover a few tens of miles by the time of the 2020 election, is going to provide a very weak base for Trump's re-election campaign.
