ROGER WATERS CALLS OUT SHUTTERING OF ASSANGE AT ROCK GIG
Ex-Pink Floyd bassist and songwriter Roget Waters is well known for his support of the Palestinian people, who were decolonised by the British in 1948 just to be immediately recolonised by the Israelis.
But now Waters has a new axe to grind, so to speak, following the shuttering of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.
At a concert in Berlin, Waters had a large neon stage backdrop with the words:
"RESIST THE ATTEMPTED SILENCING OF JULIAN ASSANGE"
Assange has famously been living in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London since 2012, when fake Swedish rape charges were issued against him, prompting fears that there was a plot to extradite him to the USA to face espionage charges.
At that time he was granted political asylum at the embassy by the country's then anti-American President Rafael Correa.
After Correa stepped down as President last year, the Ecuadorian government has been putting pressure on Assange to tone down his tweets in order to improve the country's international relations. But Assange, as a true autiste, has found this almost impossible to do, leading to the present ban on his internet access.
As for Waters, he is driven to campaign for idealistic causes like the liberation of Palestine and the total transparency of the kind promoted by Wikileaks because he has "Daddy issues" following the death of his father in WWII when he was just 5 months old, although don't ask me to explain how this works. Just listen to "The Wall" album.
