The Israeli Parliament is to consider a bill to jail anyone who "undermines the spirit" of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) by filming them. The legislation could see anyone filming or photographing IDF soldiers jailed for up to ten years! 

As reported by Russia Today:

A draft Israeli bill proposes to ban filming of soldiers and jail offenders for up to 5 years. Here are some videos that would qualify as an offense under the proposed ban, slammed as an attempt to hide abuse of Palestinians.

The controversial legislation states that anyone who “filmed, photographed, and/or recorded soldiers in the course of their duties, with the intention of undermining the spirit of IDF soldiers and residents of Israel, shall be liable to five years imprisonment,” according to reports in Hebrew-language media earlier in May.

The document, which critics see as a new way of silencing criticism of the Israeli army, says that the country “has witnessed a worrying phenomenon of documentation of IDF soldiers” in recent years. It accuses human rights groups such as B’Tselem, Machsom Watch Women, and Breaking the Silence of waiting patiently for any IDF activity “that can be presented in biased and tendentious form.”

The Knesset member behind the bill, Robert Ilatov, insists that Israel has “a responsibility to provide IDF soldiers with optimal conditions for carrying out their duties.”

The real problem here is that Israel is an ethnostate in denial. This means it has a large population of Israeli Arabs as well as Palestinians in territories that it has unilaterally annexed, like East Jerusalem, and occupied, like the rest of the West Bank.

Because of this, IDF troops as well as Israeli civilians are forced to interact with Arab and Muslim civilians on a daily basis, leading to many unpleasant incidents that can then be filmed and used to present Israel in the light of cruel colonial oppressor. This is particularly effective at undermining the "victim morality" that Israel is ultimately founded on.

The only way to solve this problem would be to create a true Jewish ethnostate that was 99-100% Jewish. 

But this would also mean giving Arab Israelis and Palestinians their own ethnostate, carved out of the meagre territory that Israel controls. For reference Israel/Palestine is about the size of Wales or New Jersey.

It is unlikely, however, that Palestinians would even agree to that, as many of them demand the right to return to the lands seized by the Israeli state in 1948.
