POLL: LABOUR PARTY FUCKED AFTER BEING GUTTED IN ITS HEARTLANDS
"Genderfluid the lifeboats! Transsexuals and minorities first!" |
At the last general election the Labour Party did surprisingly well. This was because of a number of reasons -- they promised to get Brexit done, Theresa May was crap at campaigning, and they had a highly effective army of activists and campaigners fired up on radical Leftist energy.
With the uncertainty of Brexit approaching, many voters also wanted the security of a "gibs-positive" government, in case Brexit caused economic turbulence and they lost their jobs.
Labour did well, but the appallingly bad Theresa still won, scoring 43.5% to Labour's 41%, and hanging onto government with the help of the DUP.
So how are things going for Labour in this election?
There are the national opinion polls that give you numbers for the whole country. In these the Tories have a comfortable but not yet dominant lead, and the picture is more complex with the smaller parties polling higher. But the most revealing poll is the one recently published by YouGov, which looks at the vote in Britain's ELEVEN regions.
At the last election Labour was top in FIVE of these regions (London, North East, North West, Yorkshire & Humberside, and Wales) and tied in one (West Midlands). The Tories were top in FOUR (South West, South East, East of England, and East Midlands) and tied in one (West Midlands). The remaining region, Scotland, was dominated by the Scottish National Party.
All five of the Labour-dominated regions -- as well as Scotland and West Midlands -- were areas once dominated by industrial centres and with large working-class populations. These were areas where the Labour Party was for 100 years the natural party of choice for the bulk of the voters. In short these were Labour heartlands.
In the YouGov poll looking at the regions, however, Labour is only FIRST in three of these regions -- London, where 39% of respondents said they would vote for the party, North East (32%), and Wales (29%). These percentages are all massive drops from 2017.
In every other region, including traditional Northern heartlands like North West, Yorkshire & Humberside, and Scotland, they are 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th!
FIRST:
London - 39%
North East - 32%
SECOND:
North West - 30%
North East - 32%
SECOND:
North West - 30%
Yorkshire & Humberside - 29%
West Midlands 23%
East Midlands 22%
THIRD:
East of England - 17%
South West - 17%
South East - 16%
East of England - 17%
South West - 17%
South East - 16%
FOURTH:
Scotland - 12%
Scotland - 12%
Labour vote almost halved in the North West |
Based on these findings, the election results should be extremely interesting. Not since 1922, when the Liberal Party collapsed, has there been an election like this with a major political party falling apart.
