The latest stats show a few interesting things. First of all, China is clearly lying about its death toll. If it wasn't it would be number one. There have been all sorts of stories pointing to this, like this one and this one.
Apart from that, the USA has taken the top slot due to its massive globalised population and its late start in imposing restrictions.
Next on the table, Spain could possibly overtake Italy. While Italy got its headstart thanks to Chinese business connections, Spain's coronavirus outbreak was greatly boosted by massed feminist rallies held on International Women's Day (March 8th), as we reported here.
Both Italy and Spain are taking very heavy-handed measures to stop the death tolls and infection rates rising. They seem to be having some success in slowing the rise. Also interesting is the appearance of Turkey at number 12 in the table, especially as their first reported case rather late, on March 9th.
