A celeb too useless to kill itself |
The last few days have been great for fans of celebrity death. First on the 5th of June there was the suicide of "hang bag" designer Kate Spade, who strung herself up in her New York apartment. Then, just a few days later on June 8th, irritating CNN chef Anthony Bourdain was found dead in a hotel bedroom in France after stringing himself up like a piece of prime Parma ham.
But alas, this trend seems to have now stopped, with no new celebs following Spade and Bourdain's lead in the last few days.
As there are now too many celebrities in the World, anything that reduces their excessive numbers is probably a good thing as it means less "brain space" wasted on vaguely knowing who a lot of unimportant people might be. Indeed, in both the case of Spade and Bourdain, most people had an extremely hard time remembering just who they were or why we should be informed of their demise.
Also, like many celebrities today, both Spade and Bourdain were hardly the sort of people that bear looking up to. In fact, there was something a bit wretched and sordid about both -- a woman who designed undersized hand bags that appealed to childless female hipsters and a ex-druggie TV chef with a cultural cringe towards all things foreign, FFS!
The only tragedy here is that what looked like a promising "decluttering" trend, sadly fizzled out before it could really get going.
