In times of trouble and crisis, people usually rally to the incumbent leaders. This is because the masses are scared little children and want a daddy or mummy figure to hold their hand.
We have seen a roughly similar pattern with the coronavirus emergency that is rocking the World. Most leaders have seen a strong uptick in their poll numbers. But the strongest uptick has been for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as the following graph reveals:
While Mexico's Obrador has the highest poll ratings, the Corona emergency hasn't really improved his numbers since the World Health Organisation officially declared Covid-19 a pandemic on the 11th of March. However, Johnson has soared from a net approval near zero to almost +30.
Boris is also the only leader who has tested "positive" for the coronavirus, which may have won him a few sympathy points.
Germany's Merkel, Canada's Trudeau, and Australia's Morrison have also made healthy gains. Even France's deeply unpopular President Emmanuel Macron has climbed up the basement steps a little, going from a minus-40 to a minus-20 rating. Trump too has done well, going from around minus-10 to almost +10.
All-in-all coronavirus has been a godsend for our elected leaders, although it's kind of funny that the Prime Ministers of Spain and Italy have been left off the graph.
