Samhain -- or Halloween as it is now known -- is a time when the dead stalk the earth and spirits of the departed return.
Imagine our surprise and even mild horror, then, when around about the witching hour (Japan time) Alternative Right's former site at alternative-right.blogspot.com suddenly and quite unexpectedly came back to life.
The site had been shut down by Google in the aftermath of Charlottesville, when the name "Alternative Right" had become a mummy's curse, dooming one to eternal de-platforming at the hands of the evil bloodsucking vampires of Silicon Valley.
We contacted one of the site's editors Andy Nowicki to find out more. Nowicki, who was quietly preparing to celebrate All Saint's Day, the Christian festival that immediately follows Halloween, informed us that he had received the following eerie message from Google:
"Hello, We have received your appeal regarding your blog http://alternative-right.blogspot.com/. Upon further review we have determined that your blog was mistakenly marked as a TOS violator by our automated system and, as such, we have reinstated your blog. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused in the meantime and thank you for your patience as we completed our review process. Thank you for understanding. Sincerely, The Blogger Team"
There are naturally major discrepancies with Google's story, as there was clearly human input into the decision to take the site down back in August and to keep it down. Correspondence proves this. It seems that the company had a change of heart for some reason, although that reason must remain obscure.
We also tried to contact the site's other editor Colin Liddell, who resides in Japan. But his manservant informed us that he was unavailable, having gone to a Halloween cosplay event where everyone dresses up in politically incorrect attire.
Happy Halloween and Hail Victory! |
