A man who is famous for believing in democracy has left a political party he belonged to -- and was once leader of -- because the party also believes in democracy.
In 2016 the man supported Brexit and demanded that the referendum decision must be respected at all costs "because voters" and "because democracy."
After the Brexit vote was won, he stepped down as party leader to have a rest and become a TV celebrity. The party's members then voted for another leader and then another one.
Then last weekend they had yet another meeting to vote on keeping their present leader.
Then last weekend they had yet another meeting to vote on keeping their present leader.
As reported by the Guardian:
Ukip’s leader, Gerard Batten, has been strongly backed by its national executive...
Batten, a vehement proponent of anti-Muslim policies, who has described Islam as a “death cult”, has sparked significant internal dissent over the direction he has taken the party and particularly over his decision to appoint the far-right street activist Tommy Robinson as an adviser.
An urgent meeting of Ukip’s national executive on Sunday to discuss the issue had been billed as a possible precursor to moves to remove Batten. However, members “voted overwhelmingly against a motion of no confidence” in the leader, a Ukip tweet said.
Following all this democracy, the man who is famous for believing in democracy strangely quit the party.
Apparently the man who is famous for believing in democracy has zero respect for the voters in his own party. Apparently he is only a man who believes in democracy some of the time. Goodbye democratically confused man.

Nigel Farage has quit Ukip after 25 years, saying the party he led to its greatest election successes was now unrecognisable because of the “fixation” with the anti-Muslim policies of its leader, Gerard Batten.
Farage, who took Ukip to third place by number of votes in the 2015 election and significantly shaped the ground for the Brexit referendum, said he was dismayed by Batten’s policies and his decision to appoint the far-right campaigner Tommy Robinson as an adviser.
