MILO'S CAREER GOES DOWN THE TOILET: CAN T-SHIRT SALES SAVE HIM?
The brightest stars are said to burn out the soonest, and no star in the Alt-Right/Alt-Lite cosmos has burned brighter than that of Milo Yiannopoulos, who now seems to be collapsing into a solitary Black hole surrounded by a bit of space debris.
The last few days have been hard for Milo. Since his sacking by Breitbart back in February, he had been slowly rebuilding his career and brand with the help of his rich donors and gullible supporters. He had even managed to replace Breitbart with a writing gig at The Daily Caller.
But now everything has suddenly turned to shit, with The Daily Caller firing him after one column and then, because they couldn't fire him anymore, firing the guy who hired him.
Not only this, but Milo has now been dropped by his main donor, billionaire hedge funder Robert Mercer, who announced that he had withdrawn his financial support of Yiannopoulos and severed "all ties."
This is a big blow for Milo because, talented as he undoubtedly is, the prominence that he enjoyed was largely because of those behind him -- powerful media platforms and billionaire donors -- rather than just his own merits.
“Sad news: The Daily Caller has caved to pressure and cancelled my weekly column after a day, claiming, falsely, they never planned to run weekly contributions from me,” Yiannopoulos told his followers on Facebook. “Where will it end? So: no new MILO column for now. This sort of cowardice is why the Right in America loses and will keep losing the culture wars.”
This run of bad luck is thought to stem from an expose by BuzzFeed News that focused on Milo's email correspondence with a number of people in the Alt-Right and Alt-Reich. This clearly terrified Milo's mainstream supporters.
This is definitely unfair, because most of the correspondence was basically just research for Milo's now infamous article on the Alt-Right (infamous because it was badly written and erroneous).
In essence Milo has been penalised for attempting to build his career on (a) being edgy and (b) relying on the support of people who were essentially just normies, guaranteed to be startled at anything off the Cuckservative plantation and to drop him in the shit whenever any of it threatened to blow back on them.
So, what does Milo do without these people to finance his brand of luxury journalism? Well, latching on to the #ItsOkayToBeWhite meme and selling a few T-shirts seems to be something of a stopgap measure.
